About Casey Matthews

Hi, I’m Casey Matthews. I write about wizards and stuff. I like three things in a story: being made to think, to feel, and to see.

Here are some facts about me:

  • I’m not an escaped lab rat bouncing around on a keyboard.
  • I was a middle child and it shows.
  • Grew up in the Rust Belt, which you never really get away from.
  • I’m the only writer on the internet who doesn’t own a cat. Again, this is NOT because I’m a lab rat. It’s the pet fee.
  • I actually would really like a cat but I’m worried it would eat my food, because sometimes I leave a sandwich on the counter and walk away from it. I’m not sure I can handle that kind of stress in my life right now.
  • While we’re on the subject of animals, I saw this guy driving around in my neighborhood in a pickup, and he had his dog in the passenger-side seat and his girlfriend stuck in the middle. I thought it was unfair at first, until I saw that dog’s expression and realized no one could possibly enjoy an open window more than a dog. This is all to say that, really, if we as a species care about maximizing lived happiness, we should probably be doing more for dogs.
  • If we’re ever in an argument and I’m legitimately hurtful, the safe word is “Pineapples.”
  • Spider-Man is my role model. Power and responsibility, yes, but also because he can pace on the ceiling and I really respect that.

“You have many names, though none pleasant. Erynis the implacable one. Adrasteia the one from whom there’s no escape. Nemesis? Yes, that has a certain foreboding not forget Lailah pretty. At least to the tongue. Not so pretty for those who crossed you.”

I know the back story and historical significance of Erynis.
Is there a real Mythos relating to Adrasteia and Nemesis? I know in Hebrew Lailah means Night, and in some cristian scripts Lailah is an angel of night & conception.

What I really want to know is Ryn’s backstory on those names. Like really badly. Please, please, pleaseeeee tell me??

    • I might write a longer piece on this someday, and I do reference it a tiny bit more in the current draft of book 2, but I don’t want to talk specifics just yet. I always appreciate your questions, though, Ty. I’m sorry if my answers aren’t always forthcoming.

I know you probably won’t read this but i have to try. You are my favorite author. In my short time on earth (i’m thirteen) your book the one who eats monsters has changed my life. It is my favorite book. I love how you wrote this novel, and how well the romance fits in. The characters feel real, and genuine. Ryn and Naomi have changed my life, i love their love. The talent you possess is incredible. Also i agree totally about the dog thing. i have two dogs and if i could make them any happier i would.
So as i sit writing this in class, day dreaming about book two, i hope you see this, even though you probably get tons of fan mail, just so you know how much you are appreciated, even if its from a thirteen year old girl in the suburbs

    • Hello! I’m sorry I let this sit for so long. I generally try to answer mail, but I don’t update my website often and didn’t realize you’d left this comment. It’s incredibly sweet and thank you for it.

When is the sequel to The One Who Eats Monsters coming out? I just finished it and I’m going to die if the sequel does not come out immediately.

    • I feel bad for neglecting my website so long that many comments languished.

I’m still aiming for an August 2018 release on book 2. It’s going to be tight, but I’ve got enough written that if it’s later than that, it won’t be by much. The cover art and editor are already lined up.

I just finished book one (in a single day – couldn’t put it down) and I am DESPERATE for book two! I’m so excited to hear that I don’t have long to wait!

Hi. I have read and re-read your book: The One Who Eats Monsters. I have recommended it to friends (and who have recommended it to other individuals) that read similar or the same genre, who have indicated how much they liked it as well.

Sorry, but we are all asking:

“When is the 2nd book going to be available?

    “Is there a 2nd book?

And on behalf of this eclectic band of readers who have enjoyed “The One Who Eats Monsters” we wish to Thank You. It was a “Damn Good Book”.

    Cordially,

    Enrique A.
